I know the majority of my posts here on Odi et Amo focus on interior design, but my interest in fashion actually predates my interest in interiors (unsurprising since most folks don't get interested in design until they actually buy a home). I think you'll see a lot of parallels in my fashion taste and my design taste -- in particular, a love of bright patterns. Many thanks to Laura for including me in her fun new series.

All a Flutter...

When Camilia posted this room from domino last week over at High-Heeled Foot in the Door, I was struck by how very current it felt. Sure, design trends turn over at a slower pace than fashion trends (and, if I recall correctly, this room is circa 2008), but whomever designed this room must have been reading her tea leaves correctly as it's got Spring 2010 all over it. This season is all about shades of turquoise, painted floors and ceilings and feminine florals and butterflies (think Liberty prints) and, between the robin's egg blue floors and ceiling, Schumacher's Birds & Butterflies wallpaper, this room hits all the right notes. The graphic black and whites brought in through accessories (the Madeline Weinrib zig zag rug, the greek key pillow and the silhouette pillow) bring in a nice graphic touch that helps tone down the sweetness of the butterflies and aqua.

In memory of domino's much-beloved "Turn this Outfit into a Room" feature, I thought I'd try my hand at turning this room into an outfit:

I wasn't familiar with Ted Baker until I saw his latest collection at Nordstrom and I'm absolutely in love with all of his pieces for spring, but most especially this gorgeous butterfly print dress. My sister actually purchased it to wear to some of her bridal showers this spring and it's incredibly stylish on. [My one complaint about Ted Baker though is his sizing: he stops at a 10, alas.] In any case, the colors and print are a dead-ringer for the Schumacher wallpaper (sans the little birds) and the easy, flattering cut makes this a versatile, wear anywhere dress. To make it work-appropriate, I'd throw on a tailored leather blazer in a gorgeous grayish brown. The 3/4-length sleeves make it the perfect transitional piece for spring and the leather toughens up the sweetness of the dress while the tailoring keeps it office-appropriate. I'd then layer on some tough, but sweet, pearl earrings and necklace. The necklace has just the palest hint of lilac in it, which will nicely pick up on the lilac in the print. For shoes, I'd go with Botkier's conical-heeled sandals in a nude-ish brown. I love a sturdier-looking sandal with a sweet dress; so much more current than a delicate sandal or heel. For an extra shot of color, I'd throw on this aqua satchel. The style is simple, yet still special and it's a great price for a quality leather bag.

Undercover Frills

Yes, this is a lingerie post, but don't worry Mom, I'll keep it clean. To be perfectly honest, I never wear cute sleepwear. Once I get home, I throw on pajama pants and a giant tee shirt. It's the opposite of cute. But this post over at Style Redux inspired me to take a closer look at the innerwear as outerwear trend that was all over the spring runways. I personally plan to take a (fully-lined!) lace tee and pair it with a short but structured skirt and flat t-strap sandals when the weather turns warm. My inspiration from Elle below:


However, for those of you who prefer to rock this trend in the privacy of your own home, two names to watch are Undrest and Damaris, who make some of the most gorgeous, haute couture undies out there.

I love the pretty bow detail on the back of this Undrest bralette, available here.
And, while I do think Damaris is a tad too dramatic for my taste, I love how they are pushing the boundaries of what lingerie can be.

They also use some seriously pretty fabric!

These amazing mod fashion Poster Dresses were designed by British designer Harry Gordon in a series of five different designs. Released by Poster Dresses Ltd in London. Five poster dress designs included the 'Mystic Eye Dress', 'Giant Rocket Dress', 'Rose Dress', 'Pussy Cat Dress' and 'Hand Dress'. Not much is known about this particular Harry Gordon. A Google search reveals at least 100 people with the same name in the UK. But this peculiar Harry Gordon left us with an impressive series of beautiful mod fashion dresses, so where ever you are, Harry Gordon, thanks a bunch.

These mod fashion paper dresses now are highly collectible and can fetch well over $3000.

That is hardly a bargain considering they were sold for $2.98 by the USA importer 'Madison House' in 1968. But if you insist to have all this fabulous eye candy, you may try your luck at Christie's London, vintage boutiques, flea markets, or online auctions.

Mod Fashion Japan Expo 1970

These fabulous mod fashion outfits were used at the Japanese Pavilion of the Japan Expo 1970 in Osaka. They look very stylish, very much in line with the creations of Paco Rabanne and André Courrèges.

This Model is Costing Me Money

Must give a pregnancy rant for a moment. I'm about 6 months along and, though the occasion is rare, sometimes I want to look stylish. (sadly, i'm a sweats wearer on most weekdays when I'm at the house) BUT when I'm going out, I figure I should make a good attempt. Anyway, everything I see this Maternal America model in, I just LOVE!!



I ordered the dress above and thought it would be perfect for a party & a rehearsal dinner I have in the near future. Well, well, well. It arrived in the mail (I don't know of any good maternity shops around--- Motherhood is "meh" at best --don't get me wrong, i have lots of stuff from there-- and A Pea in A Pod induces a guilt in me just from walking in the door!) and it was ok in person but nothing compared to the picture. (It's actually a fairly flimsey jersey knit- not happy with the material for the price) But, really...it's not the dress.. haha it's me. Or should I say THE model. I ordered a few other things & realized they were all from HER. Like this yellow one below:

Just love it in the picture... but my "bump" is 3 times as big and my shoulders are much broader and it just doesn't look right on me! It's like ordering from Victoria's Secret for pregnant ladies!!! I want to ask them to get some bigger models so I can at least have an idea of what it will look like on me!! Here she is again! (below) Wouldn't this dress be perfect for the wedding I have coming up??? I so want to do it but I'm NOT falling for it (or should I say HER) again!!!!

Ok, rant over. But she sure is costing me a lot in shipping!! ;)
